For years, knee arthritis treatment has often focused on controlling pain until the joint deteriorates enough to require replacement. But studies show that patients receiving three or more corticosteroid injections have more than three times the odds of progressing to total knee replacement, while arthroscopic meniscectomy has also been associated with approximately a threefold higher risk of future knee replacement.
Today, the goal can be different: preserve the knee rather than simply manage its decline. Joint-preserving and biologic treatments are increasingly being explored and used in appropriately selected patients to improve pain and function and potentially delay, or prevent the need for total knee replacement.
Connections Wellness Center offers several regenerative therapies to improve your joint function and health, see if one is right for you.
